Automatic Vehicle Classification

The Automatic Vehicle Classification
(AVC) refers to the various components and processes
of the toll collection system with which the toll equipment is
able to determine the classification of the stipulated vehicle
type for the purpose of charging appropriate toll to the customer.
According to the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) vehicle are
classified as Class-1: Private Car, Class-2: 2-axle lorry, Class-3:
Lorry with 3 or more axle, Class-4: Taxi and Class 5:Bus. However
certain high operator may have a completely different classification.
In a manual toll collection system, the AVC is used to verify
the classification assigned by toll-teller as the vehicle is being
charged.

Sensors connect to controller using
two 5 conductor quick disconnect cables (one for emitter and
one for receiver). Use Banner cables, which incorporate a "twisted
pair" for noise immunity on RS485 data communication lines.
Cable measure 0.32" (8.1mm) in diameter and are shielded
and PVC-jacketed. Conductors are 20-gauge. Emitter and receiver
cables may not exceed 250 feet each. |
